ISLAMABAD: Students of the National University of Modern Languages (NUML) paid homage to the Turkish tradition on the National Turkish Day here on Wednesday. They gave speeches and performed skits, songs and poems in an event held at the Turkish department of the university.
Moreover, a documentary to highlight the cultural values of both the countries was showcased. To add to the performances, an assortment of Turkish delicacies were also served amid a gathering of diplomats.
During the prize distribution ceremony, the Turkish Ambassador Mustafa Babur Hizlan said that the love and affection of Pakistani brothers inspired him the most and that it never let him miss his country. He added that to see students interact in his national language was a matter of pride and reflected the willingness of the students to enhance communication across borders.
He pledged continued support for the Turkish department at NUML as it was the only source to promote understanding of the language and culture in the country. Furthermore, it provided an opportunity to Pakistani people to understand and join the pace of development and progress.
Rector NUML Maj Gen (retd) Masood Hasan said that the Turkish department of the university was playing a vital role for the promotion of Turkish language and hundreds of alumni of the department are serving at important posts in the country and abroad. NUML rector, director general and ambassadors of Turkey, Azerbaijan and Cyprus distributed prizes among the winners of the speech contest.
Azeri Ambassador Dashgin Shikarov and Ambassador of Cyprus Mustafa Arawan, officials from Pak-Turk Education Foundation and Turkish Embassy officials were present at the occasion. Students from different departments of the university also attended the cultural event.
